Fishery Information

A popular one-lake pond in Yorkshire, not far from the town of Pontefract, Ackton Pond offers plenty of opportunity for catching good sized fish.

The pond is stocked with tench up to 10lb and carp up to 20lb. The main catches are smaller silver fish less than 1lb.

This is an enjoyable lake to fish if not the most rewarding. Ackton Pond is popular for family days out and teaching children to fish.

Situated in pleasant surroundings in a larger park facility there are 24 pegs around the lake and it can get crowded.

Note that the lake is reserved for matches Wednesday and Sunday so day ticket anglers should look for a different day. In the summer the same days are used for evening matches.

What size do the fish go to?

Carp of in excess of 2olbs have been caught at Ackton Pond and tench are regularly landed at around 10lbs. Frequent nets of silver fish of 4 to 6oz are the most likely catch.

Silver fish respond well to maggots and caster with loose feeds preferred.

Carp and tench are most likely caught in the margins first and last thing in the day using corn, meat and large worms.

What facilities are on site?

There are no facilities on site but the adjacent park has toilets and other facilities.

Is parking available?

Parking is available with a short walk to the lake.
