Church Lake is located within the Ashmead Fishery in Somerset, which spans across 17 acres of beautiful wetland. The fishery is run by The Carp Society, and bookings are available from March until November each year. With just eight anglers allowed to fish at any one time, Ashmead Fishery offers a unique and tranquil carp fishing experience that brings you close to nature.

What size do the fish go to?

Ashmead Fishery is home to some of the UK’s finest carp, with mirror carp known to grow over 50lbs and common carp reaching over 40lbs. These fish have developed naturally since the original stocking with fingerling carp from a Surrey trout farm in 1971. With no additional stocking since then, Ashmead’s carp stock is now one of the most highly regarded in the country.

What tactics work well?

There are many tactics that can be successful when fishing at Church Lake in Ashmead Fishery. Some popular methods include using boilies, particles, and pellets as bait, as well as using rigs such as the Ronnie rig or chod rig. Anglers often recommend fishing close to the margins, as this can increase your chances of catching the larger carp that are known to reside in the lake.

What facilities are on site?

Ashmead Fishery provides basic facilities for anglers, including a toilet block with showers and a small kitchen area for preparing food. The fishery also has a small car park that can accommodate up to eight vehicles. However, it is recommended that anglers limit their vehicles to one per angler to avoid overcrowding. No other facilities are available on site, so anglers will need to bring their own equipment and supplies.
