Fishery Information
This fishery is run by Leatherhead & District Angling Society.
The Ashtead Park Fishery consists of two ponds: the Wildlife Pond and the Rookery (Lily) Pond. These ponds offer a variety of fish species and different fishing experiences.
Ashtead Park – Wildlife Pond
The Wildlife Pond spans two and a half acres and has undergone extensive restoration work after being neglected for 50 years. The removal of silt, fallen trees, and branches has improved the pond’s condition. Efforts to repair the leaking banks and upgrade the surrounding paths have also been made. Fishing platforms, including one for disabled anglers, have been installed. The pond holds a good head of fish, including specimen roach, rudd, tench, crucians, and bream. Some large pike have been spotted but not yet caught. Electrofishing in 2014 revealed the presence of specimen roach and rudd exceeding 2 pounds, tench up to 6 pounds, and crucians up to 4 pounds. The addition of bream in 2020 has made it a favorite spot for match anglers.
Ashtead Park – Rookery (Lily) Pond
The Rookery Pond is smaller in size and features a profusion of lilies. It experienced a dry period a few years ago but is now gradually returning to its former state. This pond provides a wild and tranquil setting, making it an ideal spot to enjoy a summer’s day. It has been lightly restocked with carp, perch, and roach in 2008, which have since established themselves. Tench and crucian carp have survived the drought and their numbers are growing. While there are no monster-sized fish in this pond, anglers can still enjoy good bags of roach up to 2 pounds.
What size do the fish go to?
The Wildlife Pond is known for its specimen roach and rudd exceeding 2 pounds, tench up to 6 pounds, crucians up to 4 pounds, and the recently added bream. The Rookery Pond offers a range of sizes, with good bags of roach up to 2 pounds.
What tactics work well?
Specific tactics will depend on the target species and angler preferences. Traditional float fishing techniques with appropriate baits such as maggots, worms, or pellets can be effective for roach, rudd, tench, and crucians. Bream may respond well to feeder or ledger tactics.
What facilities are on site?
