Fishery Information
Barr Hills Pools is a mixed fishery near Crewe with loads of lovely fish to catch. It is just one lake, but there is a long island in the middle lake that makes it appear like two pools. Barr Hills Pools is about an acre in size, but it offers a fun day’s fishing if you fish it correctly. Most of the local anglers who fish Barr Hills Pools regularly like to use the waggler rod, but pole and method feeder fishing work well too. This isn’t a lake for the carp anglers, but there are some carp in here.
What size do the fish go to?
The carp are all under 10lbs at the moment. There are tench to 7lbs and perch to 3lbs. There are also some nice roach, rudd, bream and crucian carp too. Some locals have even caught barbel and chub in the lake, but these are rare.
What tactics work well?
Try to stay close to the island if your peg allows. Open water fishing is possible here, but if your peg doesn’t give you access to the island, the margins are a good place to focus. A good bed of groundbait is ideal, and then maggots and corn are the ideal hook bait. Some people have had success with pellets on this venue, but as there aren’t too many carp, pellets can restrict you sometimes.
What facilities are on site?
There are no facilities at Barr Hills Pools that we know of.
Is parking available?
Yes, parking is available close by.
