Beacons Reservoir is a 52-acre reservoir located in the Cwmtaf valley on the River Taff system, situated on the A470 between Merthyr Tydfil and Brecon. It is the top reservoir nearest to Brecon and contains wild brown trout. Only fly fishing is permitted, and fishing is on a catch and release basis.
Fishing Methods and Fish Stock
The reservoir has good stocks of free-rising fish that respond well to traditional wet and dry fly. The average size of the fish is about 12 oz, with pound-plus fish often being caught.
Tickets and Pricing
Fishing at Beacons Reservoir is controlled by Welsh Water. Day tickets are available online or over the telephone with the Fishing Passport (01874 712074). A season ticket option is also available through the Osprey Fly Fishing Association, which is based in the Pontypridd area.
