Fishery Information
Managed by the Thamesmead Angling Club, Birchmere Lake is an excellent fishing location in South East London. The 11-acre lake is home to a good head of carp up to 30lb. Popular with anglers fishing for pleasure as well as those seeking specimen catches, this is a pleasant place to fish accessible from the capital city and surrounding areas.
Also in the water are many other species such as bream, perch, roach and tench, while Birchmere is well known for its large pike at more than 20lb, and previously held the UK record for the species with a 41lb fish.
Day tickets are available and the fishery is suitable for disabled persons.
What size do the fish go to?
The largest carp in the lake reach over 30lbs and there are thought to be several in the water of this size and more. Pike in excess of 20lb are not uncommon, and other species are also good sizes with tench of up to 8lb having been noted. The lake was recently restocked with a head of 250 carp between 2lb and 20lb.
What facilities are on site?
Facilities are limited to those expected of such an amenity, with specially constructed swims suitable for disabled anglers.
Is parking available?
Parking is available close to the fishery.
