What tactics work well?

Pre-baiting followed by fishing early morning or late evening is recommended to achieve the best results at Bolgnard Lake. Feeder fishing is a reliable method, but float fishing works well too. The most effective baits include bread, worm, caster, pellet, corn, and maggot. All legal methods are accepted when fishing; however, live bait is prohibited when pike fishing.

What facilities are on site?

Bolganard Lake has fishing stands erected for convenience and better angling experiences. There’s a local tackle shop, Angling Centre, in Ballyconnell, County Cavan, where anglers can purchase their supplies. Coarse fishing is free at the lake.

Is parking available?

Yes, parking is available. There is a small car park followed by a stile, leaving a 100-meter walk. Directions to the lake include taking the first left (with a small finger post to Bolganard) into a narrow lane after leaving Ballinamore on the Cavan road. The car park is on the left, overlooking Bolganard Lake, while on the opposite side of the lane is Drumlonan Lake.
