Fishery Information
The Burnfoot-on-Esk fishing stretch of river is a family run venue located close to Longtown. The Border Esk and Liddel Angling Club were established in 2011, and it is located in a picturesque area of the countryside.
A significant portion of the bankside is covered in native hardwoods. When it comes to salmon and sea trout fishing, anglers have access to a total of 18 miles of water and four different beats to pick from.
These beats are Canonbie Beat, Langholm Beat, Lower Liddle Beat, and Newcastleton Beat. The salmon season begins on April 1 and ends on October 31, while the sea trout season begins on April 1 and ends on August 31.
What size do the fish go to?
Salmon caught in each season weigh in excess of twenty pounds, with some rivers producing fish that weigh as much as ten times that amount.
When fishing circumstances are favorable, sea trout weighing between 4 and 7 pounds are typically available.
The most productive months for fishing are June and July, and the average weight of the main runs during those months is often between 1.5 and 2.5 pounds, with a few larger fish reaching up to 10 pounds.
