Brayton Park, Aspatria, Wigton, Cumbria, CA7 3PYFishery Overview
Located in the heart of picturesque Cumbria, Brayton Pond is the perfect venue for family holidays and romantic retreats. Open all year round, this 8.2-acre spring-fed lake has 2 islands and is home to carp to 12 lbs and float fish to 2 lbs.
Day tickets are available for this fishery via an honesty box in the car park by the golf clubhouse. Night fishing is not possible on this water.
What size do the fish go to?
Carp go to 12 lbs and float fish to 2 lbs. The only fish in the lake are old English common carp and some crucians. The average size is around 6lb to 8lb.
What tactics work well?
The bottom is quite silty in parts and we have found solid bags work well. A method feeder would also be a good option. There are a number of areas of lilies in the summer, these are out in the lake and the water there is very shallow. These hold a lot of the carp in the spring and summer months. The runs are regular when you find the right spots and baits.
What facilities are on site?
On-site facilities include a bar and restaurant and a farm shop. The restaurant is part of the golf course and serves food all day. The farm shop is open 5 days a week and serves pastries, pre-prepared meals and meat from the local farm. You can also buy drinks here.
Brayton Park also has a number of luxurious lodges with bespoke kitchens, private hot tubs and disabled access. There is one lodge on the lake which has its own private fishing peg, called “Lawson”. You can read a review of Brayton Park lodges here.
Is parking available?
Parking is available on site. You have to park up by the golf course and fish the left-hand side of the lake as you look up it towards the lodges (in the trees). You can drop your gear off by the entrance to the trees but you must go and park up at the car park.
