Fishery Information
Located in rural Essex, the fishery stretches over roughly 14 miles of waterway and has a total of 13 locks. Anglers can access the fishing locations via public banks or tow path. The canal is also navigable and the fishery might allow for on-water fishing.
Fishing is prohibited in a 30m area around each lock and in the 15m area around wharfs, weirs, bridges, landing stages, and permanent moorings. Banks can be labelled as private or out of bounds.
Main capture species are carp, pike, bream, perch, chub, perch, dace, and roach.
Depending on the lock, facilities/parking may or may not be available. A safe choice would be the first lock, as it features both parking and, soon after it, a café as well. Other locks might also have limited parking.
What size do the fish go to?
Carp weighs up to 30lbs.
Pike up to 25lbs.
Chub weighs around 5lbs and bream up to 8lbs.
Smaller fish, dace and roach, are around 8osz and up to almost 2lb.
What tactics work well?
For carp and pike, bread, boilies, and sweet corn are recommended.
For other, smaller types of fishes, best are grubs, earthworms, waxworms, and crickets.
What facilities are on site?
The fishery has one café near the second lock and other facilities, depending on lock.
Is parking available?
Parking is available depending on the chosen lock. A large public car park is available at Heybridge Basin, whereas Springfield Lock features pay & display car parking.
Rushes Lock and Rickets Lock have no road access.
