Fishery Information
Owned by the Reading Fishing Club, Child Beale Lake is located in Beale Park at Lower Basildon. This puts it opposite Hartslock Wood, near the A329.
Open to the Thames, Child Beale Lake is a 30-peg water providing coarse fishing. It’s open year-round, but anglers must purchase season tickets to fish these waters.
The Reading Fishing Club has been operating since 1880, back in the catch, kill, and weigh days of Henley on Thames. Roach was often the catch of the day, but that all changed with the First World War and the eventual establishment of the Reading and District Angling Association. That secured fishing on the River Kennet, an exclusive spot at the time.
Today, the Reading Fishing Club remains one of the few clubs in the area to hold annual dinners welcoming all members and their families. And today, the Reading Fishing Club is still very proud of the Child Beale Lake.
What size do the fish go to?
Carp over 35 pounds, pike over 30 pounds, and bream over a dozen pounds have all been hauled out of the Child Beale Lake. This spot also features tench, chub, perch, and roach.
What tactics work well?
There are general club rules at the Reading Fishing Club that all users of Child Beale Lake are expected to follow.
There is no night fishing here, while access begins at 7:30 am and must conclude a half hour before sunset.
Is parking available?
There is a car park at Child Beale Lake. Members must have parking passes displayed or their cars will be towed.
