Fishery Information
Once known as the West End Farm, the Docklow Pools are the result of a lot of hard work. Owned and operated by the Bozward family since 1972, this spot is found in a terrific setting to the north of Herefordshire.
Docklow Pools is an adults-only place, with nine established fishing lakes, six private river stretches, and a range of accommodation choices for those who want to make vacation plans.
The fun begins at the 45-peg Farmer Jack, a remarkable pool that is a favourite of many guests. This is for residents and members only, with lots of features to keep anglers occupied. The spot is stocked with carp, chub, tench, bream, ide, roach, and rudd.
The Figure of Eight is available for day ticket anglers, plus it is open to members and residents. This lake has 15 pegs and is stocked with carp, tench, roach, rudd, crucians, chub, bream, and barbel.
The Mickey Mouse Pool is distinguished as one of the oldest commercial lakes in the United Kingdom. Stacked with carp and silver fish, this is also a day ticket fishery.
What size do the fish go to?
Carp can range up to 20 pounds in the members-only Snake Pool, while catfish over 70 pounds are lurking in the famous Major Bill pool. Major Bill is for double rod ticket holders only.
Carp up to 20 pounds swim Moby Dick, the suitably-named day ticket spot with 35 pegs. The record in Moby Dick is 26 pounds.
What tactics work well?
Pole, waggler, ledger, and feeder will turn up fish in Moby Dick, while floating bread also does the trick.
Chopped worm and caster are great on Match Pool from April to October. Fizzing in the peg means the carp are coming up to feed, so be prepared for a fight. Small pieces of worm and one caster at half depth can work wonders too, but strategies vary from peg to peg.
