Located close to Newnham-on-Severn in Gloucestershire, Elton Carp & Catfish Lakes is a picturesque fishery within easy reach of the local main road network.
With two purpose-built fishing lakes – Barn Lake and Horseshoe Lake – the facility welcomes local anglers as well as those who travel from further afield.
Barn Lake is stocked with various species of carp as well as bream, roach, rudd and eels, as well as a pair of catfish. There are 6 pegs with a maximum of 4 anglers permitted at any one time.
Horseshoe Lake, opened in 2007, is now classified as a Specimen Lake thanks to the presence of many sizeable carp and bream in excess of 10lbs. The catfish in this lake can exceed 60lbs.
Horseshoe Lake offers 30 pegs in a picturesque location and is regarded as a challenging lake thanks to the clay content in the water.
Night fishing is permitted by advance booking on Horseshoe Lake, and visitors should be aware it is a popular location for social fishing events.
Bait can be supplied on site with prior notification, and a good selection is offered at sensible prices.
Elton Carp & Catfish Lakes is a well-managed fishery in excellent surroundings offering a challenge to anglers of all levels of experience. There are easy access pegs for wheelchairs and disabled persons on both lakes.
What size do the fish go to?
Carp in the Horseshoe Lake are plentiful in the 20lbs+ range, and Mirror Carp of 29lbs have been landed.
Bream of more than 10lbs are not uncommon with rudd, tench, perch and roach of good sizes in the lake. Catfish can exceed 60lbs, with one example – ‘The Claw’ – weighing at least 65lbs.
What facilities are on site?
The fishery offers toilets and, if requested in advance, can supply bait and tackle. Payment is on site in a post box, cash in an envelope.
Is parking available?
Parking is readily available and plentiful, with spots close to each lake.
