The following are some of the best fisheries within the easy reach of Sheffield.
The established KJS Fisheries has some of the best Sheffield fishing lakes with four ponds to fish. Located in Killimarsh, just over the border in Derbyshire, this is an impressive fishing complex with toilet facilities, a food outlet, and disabled access with dedicated pegs. In the water is a good head of carp up to 20lbs. Bream and koi reach 5lbs, and perch 4lbs. There are also catfish and tench in the ponds. This is an all-year fishery with day tickets available.
The picturesque parkland setting of Aston Fisheries makes this the premier facility in Sheffield. Located between the M1 and the A57, this 25-acre fishery offers a choice of seven lakes, which collectively hold more than 100,000 fish. Carp are a prime target here with fish up to 30lbs, while 4lb bream and 3lb tench are frequently landed. With on-site parking and toilet facilities, a tackle shop, and a café, this is a well-managed and superbly appointed fishery with opportunities for newcomers to try their hand. Day tickets are available seven days a week.
The beautiful surroundings of Kiveton Hall Farm Fishery make this a popular destination for both local anglers and those from further afield. It’s worth travelling to as the superbly kept match lake can take 44 anglers. There are also two other fine waters within the facility. Facilities, however, are absent, yet we will still recommend you check this fishery out as it provides a quality day’s fishing. 30lbs carp are to be found here, barbel reach 6lbs, and there are many more coarse species in the lakes to reasonable sizes. The lakes are far from each other and each has its own car park.
Harthill Reservoirs – a complex of three lakes built in 1770 connected by bridges – is an established fishery in a quiet and pleasant location easily reached from Sheffield. This fishery comes highly recommended for novices as there are considerable numbers of fish in the waters. The waters are home to an excellent head of bream – the most common fish – of suitable sizes, and there are carp known to reach 30lbs – and plenty of them! The average weight for carp here is 8lbs. Although facilities are limited, there are disabled pegs available, and parking is on-site. Be aware that it is far from uncommon for an experienced angler to land 30 carp in a session, and day tickets are available.
