Fishery Information

Island Pond is on the Rackerhayes Complex, which is controlled and managed by the Newton Abbey Fishing Association. It is a 5-acre lake with has two distinct areas to fish. The lake is split into two zones by a large island in the middle (hence the name). This peaceful and tranquil lake is home to some breathtaking fish, making it one of the most exciting venues that the association owns.

What size do the fish go to?

The carp in this lake go to mid-20s at the moment. The tench, though, go to a massive 10lbs. There are also nice size roach and rudd, pike, eels and bream. This is certainly a specimen water, and most anglers are fishing for the tench, which is rare and very nice to see.

What tactics work well?

A good fishing day on this lake is all about location. As the lake is almost split into two, you need to know where the fish are going to be. So, taking a walk around the lake to look for showing fish is always worth doing before you get your tackle out.

If you’re aiming for one of the big tench or bream in this lake, a closed feeder with maggots is a brilliant option. For the larger carp, they respond very well to boilies. The pole is also a very effective tactic on this venue. If you want to try feeder fishing, the back of the venue is best for it. The tench fishing at the back is often brilliant.

What facilities are on site?

There are currently no facilities on-site, but the NAFA is looking to improve this soon.

Is parking available?

Parking is available on the complex; this lake is the closest to the car park.
