Fishery Information
RK Leisure’s Jones Pit consists of two lakes near Dunstable in Bedfordshire. There is some serious history to this place, with the main lake allegedly holding a 50-year-old albino catfish known as “The White One.”
Many of the fish originated from Woburn Abbey, where the Duke of Bedford brought the species to Britain in the 19th century. With so much antiquity packed into these waters and so much beauty in the environment, it’s easy to see how anglers could pass multiple hours at this site.
RK Leisure has put a lot of work into substantial improvements on the grounds and in the waters. A major restocking recently took place, along with an upgrade to the parking lot and overall access.
What size do the fish go to?
Catfish in the main lake have been hitting over 60 pounds, with multiple heavyweights turning up on the scales. The legendary “White One” measures up at 29 pounds and 13 ounces back in 2009.
Anglers can also find carp in the main lake, including a 41-pound mirror and a 38-pound common. Some 30 pike have eclipsed 20 pounds.
The smaller lake has catfish in the mid-20s and features some good bream and roach.
What tactics work well?
A flexible approach works well at Jones Pit. Swims vary, so tactics should likewise vary.
Fish are well-acquainted near the snags at certain swims, plus they frequent spots around the islands. Stalking these waters should turn up quality results.
Boilies that stand out on these waters are best for landing the big ones. Too much pellet will turn up more than a few silver fish.
Pre-baiting is best at Jones Pit.
What facilities are on site?
Facilities are lean at Jones Pit so plan accordingly.
Is parking available?
There is some designated parking here.
