Brackley Lough, also known as Lough Brackley, is a scenic lake located in County Cavan, Ireland. It is situated west of the N87 and feeds into the River Blackwater. The lake is known for being a pike, roach, and bream fishery, offering a variety of fishing opportunities.

What size do the fish go to?

The lake contains a limited stock of bream, with good sport opportunities. Bream fishing is available from mid-April to October. Additionally, the lake holds quality roach, hybrids, perch, pike, and eel. Fish sizes can vary, but it has been recorded that pike exceeding 20 lbs have been caught in the western arm of the lake off Prospect Point, where depths exceed 4 meters.

What tactics work well?

For bream and hybrids, feeder fishing is highly effective, although pole and waggler techniques can also yield good results. Continuous groundbaiting is recommended to attract hybrids and potentially bream. Other species, such as roach and perch, can be caught using various methods. Anglers using small boats for pre-baiting and accessing different shorelines will find the public slipway midway between Bawnboy and Prospect Point beneficial.

The amenity area on the northeast shoreline provides good access to Brackley Lake, offering parking facilities and a boat slipway. Anglers can enjoy bank fishing at Prospect Point, a promontory located on the northern shore. There is also a waterside car park that leads to a peninsula known as Prospect Point. The lake covers an area of 167 hectares and offers ample space for fishing activities.
