Fishery Information
Monnow Valley Fishery is the ideal location for a fishing vacation or a quick fishing break. The river is located in Monmouth, South Wales, and is one mile long, with 400 acres of rolling hills. The fishery offers coarse and fly fishing, as well as the opportunity to catch trout, grayling, chub, and salmon, among other species.
In addition to having a good mixture of riffles and pools, the Monnow has established a reputation as one of Wales’ best rivers for trout fly-fishing, particularly during the impressive mayfly hatches. Because of its calmer and deeper sections, the lower Monnow supports a diverse range of coarse species, including chub and grayling.
The size of river trout is significantly larger than the size of trout in stocked lakes. The average weight of wild trout is approximately 1/2 pound, with a good fish weighing in at 1 pound. Past catch reports, reflect that the Monnow holds fish in the 2-4lb range.
