Fishery Information

Mossat Trout Fishery, situated in peaceful surroundings in rural Aberdeenshire, provides fly fishing over 3 lochs and a stretch of the Mossat burn. Managed by Steve Parkinson and family since 2001, the fishery has established a reputation among local fly fishers and tourists for successful and tranquil fly fishing. It’s a member of the Scottish Tourist Board and ‘Visit Scotland.

What size do the fish go to?

The lochs are regularly stocked with a variety of high-quality trout, including Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Golden Rainbow Trout, American Brook Trout, and Blue Trout. The size of these fish ranges from 1½lb to over 15lb.

What tactics work well?

The trout species present in the lochs show different behaviors. Rainbow Trout are known for their acrobatic aerial displays and long runs. Brown Trout are typically more cautious and good to catch on dry fly. Golden Rainbow Trout can easily be seen due to their bright golden color, often swimming near the surface. American Brook Trout prefer to be near the bottom of the loch and are often caught with lures. Blue Trout give a hard fight when caught.

What facilities are on site?

Facilities at the fishery include a cosy wooden fisherman’s cabin and modern, clean, disabled-access toilet facilities. Additionally, spacious seating areas provide views of the main loch. The fishery can provide a BBQ upon request so visitors can cook their catch whilst enjoying the surrounding scenery.

Is parking available?

Yes, parking is available right next to the lochs, making it convenient to carry your fishing tackle. The area is also wheelchair friendly with flat grass banks surrounding the lochs enabling wheelchair users to fish with ease.
