Fishery Information
Advertising some of the most lively day ticket fishing in Essex, Oak Lakes Fisheries is comprised of four lakes over 40 acres. Each has a different design, so there’s definitely something for you here.
Start with Oak Lake itself, a 60-year-old lake that has a natural spring, shrubs, gravel bars, overhanging trees, and more goodies. This lake works on a day ticket and features mirror and common carp, crucians, koi carp, tench, bream, rudd, roach, gudgeon, perch, and a few sassy eels.
Pipe Lake is a members-only spot measuring 3.6 acres. It’s anywhere from three to 14 feet deep, punched up with 11 swims – two for disabled anglers. Carp is the name of the game in Pipe Lake.
Predator Lake is the home of the monsters. Some gigantic catfish have been pulled, ranging up to 144 pounds. Predator Lake features a spring and is three acres in size, plunging about five to 16 feet deep.
Finally, Match Lake is where you get your competition on. Named such because it features competitive fishing events, this lake is punctuated by three islands and sizes up at two and a half acres with a depth of five to six feet. There are 20 swims on Match Lake. The water houses plenty of carp, tench, roach, rudd, and bream.
What size do the fish go to?
Anglers can snag mirror and common carp up to 30 pounds in Oak Lake, while tench clocks in at about 10 pounds. 12-pound bream are also roaming the waters.
Pipe Lake has carp over 36 pounds and some five pound perch for your perusal.
Predator Lake has those aforementioned giant catfish at 144 pounds, plus the pike weighs in at a robust 30 pounds. The largest catfish caught in the country was caught at Predator Lake, so you have been warned.
Match Lake trends on the smaller side, with common carp of about a dozen pounds and mirror carp breaking even at eight.
What tactics work well?
Timing is everything at Oak Lakes because fishing can be done around the calendar year. Those hunting big catfish and perch are best served in the summer, while winter months are excellent for picking up pike.
What facilities are on site?
There are unisex bathrooms and shower facilities on location. Parties can arrange to use a large barbecue for gatherings. There is also a café taking orders for breakfasts, sandwiches, and drinks.
Is parking available?
Parking is available. There are CCTV cameras as well.
