Fishery Information

Set in the beautiful grounds of the National Trust’s Petworth House estate, Petworth Park is surrounded by parkland where the estates herds of fallow deer can usually be seen grazing.

This water has benefited from large scale restoration work in the past few years and is well-stocked with common carp, crucian carp to over 3 lbs., mirror carp, bream to 9 lbs. 7 oz., perch, pike to 25 lbs., roach, rudd and tench to 4 lbs.. Members enjoy good mixed bags from fishing on this venue.

Because of the good variety of fish present, this lake is ideal for pleasure anglers.

Fishing is allowed on the lower lake only.

What size do the fish go to?

Carp go to mid-double figures, bream to 9bs. 7oz., crucian carp to over 3 lbs., pike to 25 lbs. and tench to 4 lbs.

What tactics work well?

Pole, waggler and feeder produce desirable results. Some anglers prefer using loosefeed and groundbait. The most popular swims are on the road bank, but most carp are caught from the islands on the opposite bank.
