Fishery Information

Quoilie Reservoirs is a National Nature Reserve owned by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA). DAERA owns the fishing rights from the old barrier (flood gates) at Quoile Bridge to the new barrier at the head of Strangford Lough. The area spans 40 hectares and is home to species such as pike, rudd and perch. Fishing is available all year round using all legal methods including ground bait and maggots for rudd and perch. There are facilities for people with disabilities, including a new disabled angling platform installed on the River Quoile.

What size do the fish go to?

Pike weighing 4kg and over and coarse longer than 25cm must be returned to the water. This suggests that the reservoir houses fairly large specimens.

What tactics work well?

All legal methods work well at Quoilie Reservoirs, including the use of ground bait and maggots for rudd and perch.

What facilities are on site?

The reservoir offers easy access to the water on the south side where the road runs near the water. There is a path, some stands, and a car park available at the old flood gates with disabled parking spaces. Additionally, a new disabled angling platform has been installed on the River Quoile. There are two other tarmac car parks further downstream – one next to Quoile Quay, the other next to Steamboat Quay. Both of these locations feature a disabled fishing platform with disabled access.

Is parking available?

Yes, a car park is available at the old flood gates with spaces for disabled parking. There are also two other tarmac car parks further downstream – one next to Quoile Quay, the other next to Steamboat Quay.
