Fishery Information

Situated in Castelford, Wakefield, the River Caldwell is a tranquil location that provides a great day’s sport for both the novice and more seasoned angler. The length of this stretch of water is approximately 600 yards, with entry available via the footpath that runs adjacent to the water’s edge. This section of the river is slow moving and deep, and hosts a healthy stock of Bream, Perch, Chub, Pike as well as a small number of Brown Trout.  The season operates from the 25th of March until the 14th of March the following year.

What size do the fish go to?

Bream, Perch and Chub tend to weigh between 2-7lbs. Pike and Trout frequently reach double figures, with the occasional larger fish getting close to 20lbs.

What tactics work well?

Standard river tactics usually work well. During the warmer months, only fly, minnow, worm or artificial lure are allowed to be used as baits. All other baits, including maggots, are prohibited. Keep nets are forbidden.

What facilities are on site?

Clean and accessible toilet facilities are available on location.

Is parking available?

There are several safe and secure car parking spaces available close to the water’s edge.
