Fishery Information
Running from Nayland to Langham, Colchester, the River Stour offers excellent sport to anglers of all levels. The surroundings comprise of reeds, lily pads and mature trees. Thus, there is no shortage of wildlife species in the vicinity.
The deeper and shallower areas of water both afford fantastic fishing. Deeper sections of the river contain Bream and Roach with shallower sections offering up the occasional Barbel. Furthermore, there are a number of pools which return Chub, Perch and Carp.
Throughout the winter, the increased flow means that Pike and Gudgeon are also readily available. Importantly, gaining access to the site is easy, with the main road being running adjacent to the river.
What size do the fish go to?
Chub, Roach and Perch tend to weigh between 4 and 7lbs. Furthermore, the average weight of Barbel is around 8lbs. Carp are frequently landed in double figures, with the larger fish exceeding 20lbs.
What tactics work well?
Stick float tactics are popular. Additionally, minnows and leeches work extremely well as baits.
What facilities are on site?
Being a rural location, facilities are limited. However, the White Horse Inn is within walking distance. Thus, anglers can easily find fresh food, beverages and toilet facilities.
Is parking available?
There is limited parking space just off the adjacent main road.
