Fishery Information
The fishing rights to this section of the River Tone are owned by Taunton Angling Association. It starts at Firepool Lock and goes right through to Bridgwater Road in Bathpool. Known as the ‘Fast Stretch’, this is quite a challenging part of the river to fish. However, fished correctly, there are bream, roach, rudd, chub, dace, trout, and even the occasional salmon to be had.
This is just one of the parts of the River Tone that the TAA has the rights for; the rest are also well worth exploring. There are areas for targeting predators and some slower sections perfect for float and waggler fishing too.
What size do the fish go to?
The Knapp section of the river sees some of the largest fish with bream up to 8lbs in this stretch. There are also areas where double figure pike are possible to land. There are also big chub to have up and down the river, as well as impressive perch, roach and even the occasional carp and smaller salmon too.
What tactics work well?
There are many different areas on this stretch of the River Tone. Pretty much any tactic will work depending on where you are fishing. On the faster sections, it is best to stick to the bottom either with a closed feeder or weights. For calmer areas, wagglers and poles can be used. The river is so varied, though, making it perfect for every type of fishing.
What facilities are on site?
There is a supermarket on one section of the river.
Is parking available?
Yes, a few car parks are available.
