Fishery Information
This fishery is run by Verulam Angling Club.
Riverside Road Fishery is located in the centre of St. Albans, adjacent to the River Ver and flanked by Verulam Golf Course on the east side. The fishery can be accessed off London Road when entering the city from the south. The Alban Way public footpath, once part of the old railway link between Abbey Station and Hatfield, runs along the west side of the fishery.
What size do the fish go to?
Riverside Road Fishery offers a variety of fish species. The Carp in the lake can grow to around 12lb and are known to reside near snaggy features such as tree roots, brambles, lily pads, and reed beds. There is also a good head of Bream, Crucians, carp hybrids, and Tench. Silver fish such as Roach, Rudd, and Perch can reach weights of around 2lb.
What tactics work well?
Various baits can be used successfully at Riverside Road Fishery, including maggots, bread, corn, hemp, pellet, and meat. The Carp tend to be attracted to snaggy areas, so presenting baits near these features can increase the chances of catching them. The lake also offers good opportunities for catching Bream, Crucians, Tench, and silver fish using traditional tactics and baits.
What facilities are on site?
Riverside Road Fishery is equipped with a meeting room and other facilities, making it the club’s flagship fishery. The lake itself has a lot of character, featuring bays, peninsulas, reed-lined areas, and lily pads. Floating islands have been introduced to provide cover and features for the fish, as well as safe havens from predators. There are male and female toilets available on-site.
Is parking available?
Good parking facilities are available around much of the perimeter of the lake, ensuring convenient access for anglers. The fishery also provides swims suitable for anglers with mobility challenges.
