Fishery Information
Rose Cottage is a natural lake full of beautiful fish to catch. While Rose Cottage is home to some lovely carp, a lot of the anglers that fish this water employ match techniques rather than carp tactics, as there are plenty of other wonderful fish species to catch at Rose Cottage. The best part about this 2.5-acre lake is that it isn’t overfished. This is largely because you are spoilt for choice in Newport for quality fishing spots. However, Rose Cottage is a brilliant lake if you know how to fish it.
What size do the fish go to?
All we know is that Rose Cottage holds some large carp. Some locals claim there are 25lb plus carp in here; we can say there is likely a few 20s and plenty of double-figure carp to go around. There are also some really nice bream in this lake, and a few nice tench as well. Good weights over a day session are really easy thanks to the nice stock of roach and rudd as well.
What tactics work well?
You can have a blinding day fishing Rose Cottage with a pole or a float rod. Some good quality groundbait and some maggots or corn will see you catching some nice fish, including some very nice bream. To target the larger fish, method feeder fishing or single bottom baits are a good choice. The carp can be caught on naturals here because the lake isn’t heavily fishing by carp anglers.
