Fishery Information
Shemmings Ponds is a very underfished water and one of Essex’s best-kept secrets. It is in Hardy’s Green, just outside Colchester and is a must-visit for any angler in the area. Shemmings Pond has recently had thousands of fish added to the pond. But a large part of the old guard is still in the water too. All of the usual species are present here, roach, rudd, bream, carp, tench and even Crucian carp and Pike.
What size do the fish go to?
Shemmings Pond looks very unassuming from the bank during the day. However, if you arrive early or at bite time, you’ll see this water come to life. With the newly added fish in the water, you could be looking at catching 5-10lb carp all day long. However, the old guard is still large and in charge here, with double-figure carp and Pike both very possible in this water.
What tactics work well?
One of the best things about Shemmings Pond is that it is very underfished. So, pretty much every tactic works here. Sure, you’ll have to try a bit harder for the big ones, but a PVA bag full of the good stuff in the right spot (close to the overhanging trees, for example) could nail one of the longest living residents of the lake.
