Fishery Information
Built on a former gravel pit, the South Lagoon is a 20 acre spot located in the Wyboston Lakes complex. The complex is on the A1, nearby St. Neots.
South Lagoon is overseen by the Luton Angling Club. Day passes can be purchased from the club for non-members. Anglers will find access to 28 numbered pegs on the lake, setting the scene for predator fishing and a lovely but challenging day of quality sport.
Anglers zeroing in on big pike and zander typically find their fill at South Lagoon, with many reporting successful and invigorating catch days.
The lake houses a number of species of fish, including bream in the double-digits. Tench, perch, roach, pike, zander, carp, and one big bad mirror carp have also been reported.
What size do the fish go to?
It’s not uncommon for a shoal run to fetch bags of 100 pounds or more, so be on the lookout for the big score. South Lagoon fishing has also turned up 10-pound tench, four-pound perch, 32-pound pike, 16-pound zander, and carp up to an including 33 pounds.
And that legendary mirror carp? Word has it clocking it at around 39 pounds. Be ready for action.
What facilities are on site?
North House Lake is adjacent to the river at South Lagoon and enclosed by an otter fence, but be aware it is available for members only.
Is parking available?
Car parking for the river is available behind most pegs. Simply park on the grass to the rear of your selected swim. If the weather is very rainy, parking spots might be on the soft side.
There is also a hardstanding parking lot by the entrance to the nearby nature reserve. This allows access to the upstream area of South Lagoon and leads to some rather bushy tracks and swims.
