Fishery Information
Owned by the Billericay and District Angling Club, the Southminster Pits are a complex of spots designed for fishing variety.
Cited as a “club freehold property,” this facility features a range of tree-lined pits marked by signage and calculated for specific types of fishing.
Keeping track of what fish are found in what spot takes good memory skills, but the Southminster Pits offer a unique experience for anglers of any skill level.
Pits One, Three, and Six provide access to the larger carp in the complex.
Pit Nine is noted for smaller carp, while Pit Three is renowned for roach, tench, and more carp. Pit Seven reportedly contains a mix of fish, with everything from carp, bream, crucian carp, roach, rudd, and perch filling the waters.
What size do the fish go to?
Reports suggest Pits One, Three, and Six have carp upwards of 30 pounds. Bream in the double-digits and tench up to eight pounds can be found in Pit One.
What tactics work well?
Because there is so much variety at the Southminster Pits, finding a place to start can be daunting. Anglers with a sense of direction will know the score and find a favourite pit, but others may be better suited to do a little exploring.
Anglers must remember that fish are not to be moved from one pit to another. There is a two-rod maximum for each member. And night fishing is allowed at Southminster Pits.
What facilities are on site?
There are flush toilets on location. A designated gate is available for a “very limited” number of disabled anglers, with authorization required in writing. Wet ground conditions may further inhibit this already limited approach, so be mindful of the weather before heading out.
Drinking water is available on site.
Is parking available?
There is a car park at Southminster Pits.
