Fishery Information

Spring Cottage Fisheries straddles the Derbyshire/Leicestershire border in the midst of the national forest, surrounded by 200 acres of idyllic countryside. Easily accessible – located just minutes from junction 11 of the M42. Our aim is to create a fishery that breaks the “commercial” mould we don’t believe in 300lb match weights of carp in poor health. We want to cater for a wider variety of anglers so each one of our 6 lakes offers something slightly different. Since we opened in June 2017 a number of species have been stocked. These include; Carp, Roach, Rudd, Bream, Tench, Crucians, Chub, Perch, Pike and Specimen Carp, over 25,000 fish in total.

What size do the fish go to?

Each lake at Spring Cottage Fisheries offers different species, sizes and weights of fish. Here’s a summary:

Elm Pool – Pure Crucian Carp & Tench, sizes not specified
Chestnut Pool – Depths vary between 3ft – 5ft, stocked late 2016, sizes not specified

Birch Pool – Bream to 7lb+, Tench to 6lb+, Rudd to 1lb 1/2, Perch to 3lb 10oz & Carp to double figures, additional 1800lb of C1 & C2 Carp stocked in 2017, averaging between 3-5lb
Willow Pool – Carp, Bream & Rudd, sizes not specified
Oak Pool – Stocked with 180 specimen Carp to 28lb, predominantly Leney and Dinkesbuehl strains

Poplar Stretch – Stocked heavily with Bream and Roach with plenty of other species to catch too; Crucians, Tench, Rudd, and Perch. Sizes not specified

What tactics work well?

As each lake offers different species, sizes, and weights of fish, different tactics can be employed. For Elm Pool, float fishing and waggler fishing are recommended. For Chestnut Pool, pole fishing and method feeder fishing are popular tactics. For Birch Pool, groundbait feeder fishing and ledger fishing can be effective. For Willow Pool, float fishing and waggler fishing are recommended. For Oak Pool, boilies, pellet, and pop-up baits are effective for catching specimen carp. For Poplar Stretch, pole fishing and waggler fishing are popular tactics.
