Fishery Information
Located in Wandhurst, East Sussex, Springwood fishery is a stunning setting of four mature lakes, all well stocked with a variety of species.
With its flat banks adjacent to the main entrance, Top pool is ideal for the elderly or disabled angler. The site is also the most popular of the four among families, hosting a range of picnic tables where non-anglers can sit and relax. The pool holds Common, Mirror & Grass Carp. There are also Tench, Perch, and a few Golden Orfe.
Spring lake is the largest of the four waters, spanning approximately 3 acres. This spot is ideal for the more seasoned angler and boasts a variety of extremely large Carp and Catfish.
Long pool tends to be a popular site for small club matches. There are pegs available, however many anglers prefer to fish in the long grass. The waters hold a decent quantity of Carp, Perch and Rudd. The catches are generally a little larger in weight than those in the Top pool.
Beech pool is a half-acre venue that is surrounded entirely by trees. The lake goes down to a depth of 14ft and has proven to be a popular location for the more adventurous angler. There is a healthy selection of Carp, as well as smaller Tench, Bream, Perch and Rudd.
What size do the fish go to?
The Carp in the Top pool frequently weigh in at 20lbs, with the Bream reaching 3lbs. Catfish in the Spring pool have weighed as much as 60lbs, with Large Carp frequently being landed in the 30lb region. There are plenty of Tench, Bream, Perch and Rudd across all four lakes, weighing anything from 4-8lbs.
What tactics work well?
Large halibut pellets, slices of meat, and lobworms have proven to be particularly effective for Catfish. Boilies, pellets and sweetcorn are the popular choice for Carp. Maggots, casters and expander pellets work especially well for the smaller species of fish in Beech pool.
