Talybont Reservoir is a 320-acre Welsh Water fly fishing reservoir co-leased by Merthyr Tydfil Angling Alliance and Gwent Angling Society. It is a wild brown trout venue, and since 2017, day tickets have been purely catch and release. Day tickets can be booked online with the Fishing Passport, while full members of MTAA and Gwent AS angling clubs can fish the water on a season ticket basis.
What size do the fish go to?
The wild trout in the reservoir average around 13 inches in length, with many fish in the 15 to 18-inch range.
What tactics work well?
Talybont Reservoir is best fished on a dull, damp, or windy day in the summer. Evenings also provide good fishing opportunities, with hatches of buzzer and sedge. Wading the reservoir is possible, but caution must be taken due to drop-offs and submerged channels.
What facilities are on site?
