Fishery Information

Nestled in the remains of a gravel quarry in Stanford-le-Hope is the Warren Fishery. With clear and fresh waters thanks to chalk aquifer, this spot keeps the fish spirited.

The Warren Fishery is comprised of four lakes, all of which are designated for members only as of August 2020.

The Main Lake at the Warren is about 19 acres in size, with a depth of two to 10 feet. The lake is stocked with bream, carp, rudd, roach, perch, and pike. There are some catfish, along with a few eels and tench. There are 50 swims on the Main Lake, with a gravel bottom and silt beds to keep things interesting.

Match Lake is about three acres in size and boasts a depth of about four to nine feet. There are 31 pegged swims on this lake. The waters are teeming with the usual suspects, including bream, crucians, roach, rudd, and tench. There are a few eels, chub, and blue orfe as well.

The Square is unsurprisingly a square lake. It’s about one and a half to two acres and ranges to three to nine feet in depth. The Square was once attached to the Main Lake. It was split off to hold a large head of carp, but now smaller carp from the Main Lake are filling the water. Best of all, these fish are gaining some serious weight.

Finally, Tench Lake is considered the quietest spot at the Warren. This location breaks in at one and a half acres and, yes, really does contain tench. There are some crucians in these waters as well and grass carp like to hang out on the back bay.

What size do the fish go to?

Fish of all sizes can be found at the Warren Fishery. 22-pound carp have been hauled in from Tench Lake, for example, while 100 pound bags of bream and tench can be found on Match Lake on an average day.

What tactics work well?

Unhooking mats must be in use at all times. Pike fishing is only permitted from November 1 to February 28.

Nuts, fixed leads, live bait, open fires, guns, swimming, model boats, and radios are all prohibited at the Warren Fishery. Dogs are allowed as long as they are well-behaved.

What facilities are on site?

There are locked flush toilets at the Warren Fishery. Those seeking relief require a code from the bailiff. There is also a stand-pipe for fresh water.

Is parking available?

Parking is available on the premises. Simply follow the signs.
