Fishery Information
Operated by the Billericay & District Angling Club, the Thoby Wood Fishing Lake is a coarse fishing spot located near Ingatestone. Another new acquisition for the club, they have turned great attention to this glorious five-acre abode.
Fully loaded, this spot contains carp, tench, pike, bream, roach, rudd, and perch.
In late 2009, the club stocked the water with smaller crucians and tench. There are plans to supply more stock in the near future.
What size do the fish go to?
Fish at Thoby Wood Fishing Lake range from 30-pound carp to bream in the vicinity of nine pounds. Along with these beauties, five-pound tench have been reported.
What tactics work well?
Fishing can commence at Thoby Wood Fishing Lake at 6:30 am, with anglers expected off the property by sunset. Keepnets are not permitted, except in circumstances involving official club matches. The Billericay & District Angling Club has a handbook governing the use of keepnets at their facilities, so keep this in mind.
A maximum of two rods are allowed for full members.
Thoby Wood Fishing Lake does not permit dogs on the property.
What facilities are on site?
Thoby Wood Fishing Lake features portable toilet facilities. Anglers are expected to use those toilets, not the surrounding woods and grounds.
Is parking available?
There is a large car park on the premises. An incline leads up to the nearest swims. Because of this, disabled anglers may park closer to the lake in designated areas.
In times of wet weather, the bailiff may recommend the closing of the disabled car park due to poor conditions. Be aware of the weather before planning a trip to Thoby Wood Fishing Lake.
