Monmouth and District Angling Society has fishing on 3 stillwater pools at Treowen Estate near Dingestow.
What size do the fish go to?
Brick Kiln Pool holds carp up to 15-20 lbs, and lots of small rudd and some specimens in excess of two pounds. The small pool holds some juvenile tench and the occasional carp averaging 5 to 6 lbs and small to medium sized rudd. The large lake holds mainly rudd, some roach and good tench and perch up to 3.5 lbs have been recorded. Occasionally large carp are seen but never caught.
What tactics work well?
In Brick Kiln Pool, anglers can use boilies, corn, bread, or worms as bait, while float fishing or ledgering works well. The small pool is suitable for float fishing or ledgering with worms, maggots, or bread as bait. In the large lake, anglers may use maggots, worms, or small pellets and fish on the bottom with a feeder or waggler rig.
