Another body of water maintained by the Ampthill & District Angling Club & Fish Preservation Society is Westminster Pool, found in Ampthill Park, on Woburn Street in Ampthill. The monks living in Ampthill Castle first constructed the venue, around a quarter of an acre, for the fish.
The lake is the only one owned by the Ampthill & District Angling Club & Fish Preservation Society that has catfish. Other fish species in the pool include ghost carp, common carp, crucian carp, mirror carp, rudd, roach, perch, bream, and tench.
The lake’s depths range from around 2 feet to 6 feet, and there are 12 pegs spread around the perimeter. The lake is off-limits to anglers during the night, and the only way to get there is on foot and via the main parking lot. No parking is allowed on the road that is adjacent to the pool.
What size do the fish go to?
The Lake has had catfish catches of up to 40lb, and plenty of carp up o 10lb plus.
What tactics work well?
Hook pellet or chopped worm work well for the carp and the same might hook you a catfish ttoo. The fishery des no allow bivvies, brolly tents, and keepnets. You must have a landing net to fish this water. Use Barbless and Micro-Barbed hooks only and no braided line.
