Fishery Information

West Port Lake is a large lake in Staffordshire owned by the City Council and run by the Middleport W.M.C angling club. The lake is used for angling, walking, bird watching, and leisure activities, with plenty of pegs available at any time. It can be easily reached by bus or train, with the Longport railway station only half a mile away.

What size do the fish go to?

The lake contains carp up to 27lb, tench up to 12lb, bream to double figures, roach, and perch.

What tactics work well?

The lake can be hard to fish, and there can be blank sessions, but when the fish are in feeding mood, it can be incredible. The best methods are caster and worm when float fishing, and laying a bed of caster and hemp is the norm. The water also contains a good head of carp, and all tactics can have their day, but it is best to plan to fish over several days and nights.

What facilities are on site?

The lake is a popular spot for walkers and bird watchers.

Tickets are available from Nathan’s of Burslem.
