Fishery Information
Willen Lake, managed by Milton Keynes Angling Association (MKAA), is a popular coarse fishing destination located in Milton Keynes. The fishery consists of two lakes that span across 150 acres, making it the largest fishery on the MKAA ticket. The lakes are open all year round, with special rules in place, and cater to specialist anglers seeking large bream, tench, pike, rudd, roach, perch, carp, and catfish.
What size do the fish go to?
Willen Lake is home to double-figure bream, tench over 8lb, pike topping 30lb, rudd, roach, and perch, all exceeding the 2lb mark. The North Lake also has carp reaching mid-20s and at least one catfish. The South Lake houses a fair share of large fish as well as a significant population of pleasure catch-sized roach and skimmers.
What tactics work well?
The lakes at Willen cater to specialist anglers, so using the right tactics and bait can be crucial for success. Common strategies include feeder fishing for bream and tench, float fishing or freelining for rudd and roach, and using ledgering or dead baiting techniques for pike. For carp fishing, boilies, pellets, and particles can be effective.
What facilities are on site?
Fishing day tickets can be purchased for £8 per person at the Watersports Centre. The lakes have designated fishing areas and syndicate memberships for specific sections, providing a variety of options for anglers. Keep nets may not be used during the traditional closed season. Toilets are available at the Watersports Centre.
Is parking available?
Parking is available at Willen Lake, offering easy access for anglers to transport their gear and set up for a day or night of fishing.
