Fishery Information
This is now only available to fish for those staying on site in caravans.
Just north of the castle are four lakes, covering 21 acres, providing one of the best nature reserve and lake areas in the North East of England. Beside the River Wear – considered to be the best sea trout water in England. The lakes are exclusive for our owners and a day pass must be obtained from the office with proof of fishing licence.
What size do the fish go to?
One of the premier trout fisheries in the North East. The lakes are very well stocked and restocked on a regular basis to maintain a high stocking density with quality rainbow and blue trout from 2lb with the present record standing at 25lb 12oz.
What tactics work well?
The fishery offers fly fishing on two lakes of approximately 3 acres and 5 acres, and a small ½ acre bait lake ideal for junior anglers. The lakes are very fertile and support a prolific and varied range of aquatic life including olives, damsel, sedge, caenis, corixae, shrimp, snail, stickleback, and minnow. The rich feeding encourages the trout to feed naturally from the beginning of the season, particularly on the abundant hatches of buzzer, olives, and damsel.
What facilities are on site?
They’re top-notch including kitchen food, shop, shower block, and even a conference room. There is plenty of space for disabled anglers to fish, a lovely complex.
Is parking available?
Yes, parking is available on site.
