Fishery Information
Situated on the northern slopes of the Blackdown Hills close to Staple Fitzpaine, Wych Lodge Lake is managed by the Taunton Angling Association in partnership with the Heritage Lottery and the Environment Agency. If you are looking for a fishing venue that has a lot to offer, this is one of your best bets.
There are 2 purpose built easy access platforms on the South side of the lake and both have full wheelchair access. Additionally, there is a path around the lake leading to the north side where you can find 6 platforms to fish from. 4 more fishing platforms can be found on the southern side of the lake.
This lake can accommodate up to 11 anglers and is well-stocked with carp, bream, perch and roach. Carp go up to 20 lbs. in this water. There is a good stock of small carp that are ideal for junior anglers.

What tactics work well?
Popular tactics for carp fishing include floating baits (bread, dog mixers, etc.), method feeder with boilies or hard pellet on a band.
Bream often fall to a pole or pellet feeder, fished over a bed of micro pellet with dead red maggots.

When you purchase your Wych Lodge ticket, you will get the gate code to access the lake via the Forestry Commission’s track. This track is approximately 1 mile long with parking at the bottom next to the lake.
